In her very first memoir, Lily Collins opens up about the deeply troubled relationship she has with her father, Phil Collins. In an effort to mend their fences, she penned an open letter forgiving him for not being around while she was growing up.
Lily Collins, 27, has decided to share some of her deepest, darkest secrets with the world. In her first memoir, “Unfiltered”, the young actress touches on some of the more upsetting parts of her life and how she managed to cope and overcome them. One of her biggest issues? Her relationship with her dad, Phil Collins, 66, which became strained after he divorced from her mother and moved out of the country.
“I’ve realized that many of my deepest insecurities stem from these issues with my dad,” Lily writes in her book. “It’s taken me over a decade to resolve some of them (others I’m still resolving) and to finally build up the courage to speak my mind to him.”
Lily goes on to share an open letter she wrote to her dad. “We all make choices and, although I don’t excuse some of yours, at the end of the day we can’t rewrite the past. I’m learning how to accept your actions and vocalize how they made me feel,” Lily writes to her dad. “I now understand that my frustrations surrounding our communication are not about changing you, but accepting you as you are.”
“I forgive you for not always being there when I needed and for not being the dad I expected,” Lily continues. “I forgive the mistakes you made. There’s still so much time to move forward. And I want to. I’m inviting you to join me. I’ll always be your little girl.” So sweet.
We can’t wait to read the rest of Lily’s memoir, “Unfiltered”. In the book she also opens up about her eating disorder and an abusive relationship she suffered through.
