The live-action ‘Beauty & the Beast’ is going to be a groundbreaking movie in more way than one. Director Bill Condon revealed in an all-new interview that the movie will feature Disney’s first ‘exclusively gay moment’ between two major characters!
“LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston,” director Bill Condon told Attitude magazine. “He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realizing that he has these feelings. And Josh [Gad] makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”
This will be the first-ever gay moment in a Disney movie. Talk about a landmark moment! This scene is going to break down the walls of Disney’s notorious traditional values. What a time to be alive. Maybe Elsa will get a girlfriend in Frozen 2 likes some fans want! To note, Disney aired its first gay kiss in the TV cartoon Star vs. the Forces of Evil in 2017.
Beauty & the Beast features music by Alan Menken and lyrics by the late Howard Ashman. Howard was openly gay and died of complications from AIDS just months before the release of Beauty & the Beast in 1991. The beloved movie was dedicated to him. His partner, Bill Lauch, accepted Howard’s Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1992 on his behalf.
The live-action Beauty & the Beast will hit theaters on March 17. The movie also stars Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson, Audra McDonald, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kevin Kline, and Luke Evans.
