Although Katie Holmes has had many roles, her most important by far is being a mom to her & Tom Cruise’s daughter Suri. And while Tom seems to think of parenthood differently — as he’s been notoriously absent from the 10-year-old’s life — Katie is determined to put their daughter 1st. You’ll love what she had to say about motherhood!
Katie Holmes, 38, proved she’s one dedicated mom to her and Tom Cruise‘s, 54, daughter Suri, 10, during her cover interview for Town & Country‘s April issue. And while many career women have a hard time balancing work and family, Katie seems to have it all down pat — talk about a supermom! “It’s very important that I’m present and [Suri] has a stable, innocent childhood,” Katie explained to the mag.

“I feel so blessed to do what I do, but there’s nothing in the world better than watching your child succeed.” How sweet is that? But not only does Katie love being a mom, at this point in her life, it’s also vital to her career in Hollywood. “This business is so unstable, and you never really know where you’re going to be … My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now,” the actress/director gushed.
Is it just us or was that a SLIGHT dig at Tom? After all, he too acts in Hollywood but seemingly couldn’t care less about being a present parent. Either way though, Katie is such an adorable mom! And while she admittedly loves to act, in the future she sees herself taking on a slightly different role when it comes to the movies. “For now I like acting and directing. Eventually I’ll just direct,” she said. And part of that decision comes from wanting to delegate her professional and private lives. We totally don’t blame her for that!
“Every day, kids get a little further away from you. That’s a positive thing. They should be becoming more independent, but it’s heartbreaking,” Katie said. “You want them to stay with you forever, but they’re these amazing beings, and you have to do everything you can to give them what they need — and then they’re going to go. And that’s going to be very, very sad for me.”
In the meantime though, Katie is set on protecting her daughter from the Hollywood spotlight. Part of which entails helping Suri distinguish between what’s real news and what’s not. “To experience something publicly and privately is a lot for a person to go through,” Katie said. “In today’s world a lot of celebrities probably shield their children from the tabloids; in my household we know what they print isn’t true, so we don’t pay attention. There are more important things. But it’s very relatable to me; if people know who you are, they might write about you, and you can’t control that.”
