Omg YAS! March 1 is a big day for YouTube and music fans alike, because infamous parody king Bart Baker has released his first pop album, and he told HollywoodLife.com all about it! Read the EXCLUSIVE interview, right here.
YouTuber Bart Baker has been making hilarious parodies of songs from the biggest stars like Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and more for the last 5 years, but now he’s ready to take his music carer to the next level – from parodies to original pop music – and the resulting album Celebritease is fun, catchy and more clever than you’d believe! You can buy Bart’s new album RIGHT NOW for $4.99 on iTunes.
“It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while but needed to wait for the right time, and I think this is the perfect time,” he gushed to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY ahead of the March 1 release. “That’s definitely the goal to cross over into that main stream music field but you know I’m not going to leave behind what my channel was built on which was the parodies,” Bart explained, so don’t worry YouTube lovers!
Bart wants his fans to know that he’s not just a comedian, he’s also a super talented artist. “People think of me as a parody artist but this whole time I’ve been the one on these tracks doing all of the vocals, people don’t think I can sing or rap, they just think i hire people to do it.” Bart argues that his parodies have really been a crash course in pop music, which makes him an expert. On the new album, you can definitely hear it. “At this point I’ve studied pop and hip hop and what’s popular for so long it’s almost like writing a chorus and lyrics to songs is really easy to me because that’s what I’ve been studying for the last 5 years.”
Bart named most of the songs on his album after huge music stars that he’s parodied in the past like Taylor, Drake, and Future, but there’s one song on the album that he’s even more excited about called “Don’t Worry Bout That.” “That one’s just like really universal, I feel like every age demographic is going to dig it. It kind of has a Michael Jackson vibe which is coming back right now.” He also reveals that the “Taylor Swift” is a story from the point of view of a guy that used to date TayTay. “She always writes about dudes so I’m flipping the script on that.” So cool!
You might think it’s weird to name your songs after other stars, but Bart explains it’s all about love. “They’re the people that I listen to as well, like Future, Drake and Calvin Harris, Justin Bieber, I listen to all that music, I’m a fan of all these people, that’s what is important to realize is that I’m fan of all these people that I am making music about.”
You might know Bart for his parodies, but don’t expect this album to be a big joke. “It’s less comedy than mainstream music, that’s why its pop in the pop category,” he revealed. “The last thing I want is for people to think it’s a comedy album like Weird Al type music. This is stuff you hear on the radio and if you listen closely to the lyrics you’d be like oh sh*t, that’s clever.”
