It’s all happening, you guys! After raising more than $400,000 in a Kickstarter campaign, TLC is gearing up to release their first album since 2002 — and their manager dished ALL about what we can expect on Feb. 27. Here are all the details!
TLC is making a comeback, and they’re finally getting ready to share what they’ve been working on with the world. The ladies, T-Boz and Chilli, are expected to drop their first all-new album in 15 years this June, according to a blog post from their manager. This will be their first full record that won’t feature vocals from Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes, who tragically died in 2002.
T-Boz and Chilli have been working on putting a new record out for quite some time now, and more than two years ago, they launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the project. They’ve long passed their $100,000 goal, raising $430 million in total, and their manager finally gave us some new information about what’s to come on Feb. 27.
“I am thrilled to let you know that the album is tentatively scheduled to be released at the end of June,” Bill Higgins confirmed. “Let me explain why this album has taken longer than expected. When we decided to do the album it was based on a number of emotional decisions and one of the biggest was how you inspired Tboz and Chilli by your emails and texts asking them to do another album. At the time, we had no music, no producers, no writers and a few ideas.”
Bill went onto explain that the ladies’ touring schedule at the time was too hectic for them to get to work right away, and then, once they were free, it took quite some time to coordinate with writing partners and producers. “The simple fact is that Tboz & Chilli were inspired to make a record that they could be proud of and they would not settle for less and sometimes you cannot rush art,” he revealed. “They demanded of themselves a record that would stand up to the great body of work created in the past and that you would be proud of.”
A specific release date or details about any of the songs on the record have not been confirmed just yet, but at least we have a good idea of what’s to come! TLC hasn’t released a studio album since 3D in 2002, and although it dropped six months after Left Eye’s death, half of the record still featured vocals from the late singer. This time, it’ll be T-Boz and Chilli entirely on their own.
