Yep, this just happened! The Chainsmokers and Coldplay surprised the crowd at the 2017 BRIT Awards on Feb. 22 and finally debuted their song, ‘Something Just Like This,’ which fans have been waiting quite some time for. We’re already totally obsessed!
What better place to premiere a hot new song than at an awards show?! Coldplay did just that when they took the stage at the BRIT Awards, where they were joined by The Chainsmokers to play their sure-to-be hit collaboration, “Something Just Like This.” The guys came out toward the very end of the show to give the first live performance of the new song amidst a trippy, colorful background, and it was EPIC!
The Chainsmokers revealed to fans in September that they were working on something with Coldplay, and finally, five months later, we’ve gotten our first listen at what they’ve been cooking up. News broke that Coldplay would be performing at the BRITS just hours before the show, and the day before, Spotify accidentally leaked a banner promoting the release of “Something Just Like This,” which was the first time the song title had even been publicized. However, the link to listen to the song was quickly disabled until just before the start of the awards ceremony.
When fans noticed that The Chainsmokers conveniently have some shows in the UK coming up, they put two and two together to figure out that the guys would join Coldplay onstage for the BRITs to debut the track. The pair, Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, have been absolutely slaying the music game since the success of their 2016 single, “Closer,” and will be releasing their first full album later this year. Plus, they also have a big U.S. tour coming up — and they’re certainly only bound to get bigger if they have a hit with Coldplay, right?!
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of Coldplay and The Chainsmokers’ performance?!
