Emeli Sandé, 29, showcased her immense vocal talent at the BRIT Awards on Feb. 22. The Scottish singer sang her song “Hurts” from the album Long Live The Angels. While you may remember Emeli from her top-charting hit “Next To Me,” Emeli rocked out to her latest song “Hurt,” and reminded us why we love her powerhouse voice so much!
Similar to Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep,” Emeli’s “Hurts” is a heart-wrenching, yet angry ballad about a disconnected love, which Emeli wrote along with James Murray, Mustafa Omer, Matthew Holmes, and Philip Leigh. The intense drums carry the rhythm and definitely had the crowd on their feet during Emeli’s BRITs performance. With a huge arrangement of dancers, violins and drums, Emeli belted her song and proved herself to be a firecracker. With the addition of stomping dancers and a clapping
Emeli’s fans had to wait four years for her new album, but it was well worth the wait! Earlier in the evening, Emeli won the BRIT for Best Female Solo Vocalist! The Alford native was up against Anohni, Ellie Goulding, Lianne La Havas and Nao. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, the 29-year-old revealed that she always wanted to be a famous singer, but in the form of a Spice Girl! “We had Spice Girl games in the playground. I was always Mel B, cos that was Scotland, I was the only black kid. I had leopard skin leggings ready to roll any time we were doing a talent show,” she said. Still, the star confessed she is extremely nervous around famous people and even froze when meeting Jay Z!
