This is so exciting! Facebook has just unveiled their new group video chat feature for Facebook Messenger, and we’re obsessed. Click through to learn everything you need to know about video chatting on Messenger before you give it a try!
1. The feature is available starting December 20
Just in time for the holidays! Facebook Messenger now enables users to group video chat with their contacts, and it’s super easy. You’ll be able to see your friends and family online within minutes. It’s going to be such a great tool for people who are unable to get together for the holidays this year! The feature is available via Messenger on Android, iOS, and desktop on Messenger.com.
2. You can decide how you want to alert your friends about the chat
When you begin a group video chat on Messenger, it notifies the users just like it would with a regular message. There’s no ringing, like with FaceTime, for example. But if you really need to alert someone about the conversation, you can ring specific people to ensure they join in.
3. You can add more people after the chat begins
If you realize after starting the group video chat that you totally forgot to add someone, then no worries; you’ll be able to send them a notification so that they can join in the existing conversation asap. You can also leave the conversation without interrupting the group chat for everyone else!
4. You’ll be able to use Snapchat-esque filters
“We’re excited to launch Messenger’s brand new native camera that comes preloaded with superpowers like 3D masks, style transfers, amazing art, frames, stickers, a canvas, and way more!” said David Marcus, the head of Messenger at Facebook. “With this update, we’re making Messenger a way more visual messaging platform for everyone.” But do they have the one that makes you look like a deer?
5. Un unlimited number of people can be in the group chat
It appears that there’s no limit to how many people can be in the video group chat. It may get crowded, so don’t go crazy, though!
