OUCH. Jonathan Stewart took the hardest hit we’ve ever seen in an NFL game, Dec. 19, when the Carolina Panthers and the Washington Redskins went face-to-face, literally. The star running back was hit so hard that his face mask broke off his helmet! See the cringeworthy moment here.
We’ve witnessed a lot of insane tackles in NFL games throughout the years, but this one took the cake. Jonathan Stewart, 29, the running back beast for the Carolina Panthers proved he can take on just about anything in Monday night’s [Dec. 19] game against the Washington Redskins. The stiff arm champ took a double hit that broke his helmet. Stewart was at the end of an 8-yard run to begin the second half, when he was slammed by multiple Redskins defenders. The result? — His face mask actually broke off his helmet and flew onto the field! Watch the insane hit below.
Have you recovered from watching that tackle?… Well, check out this photo that was captured at the scene of the hit where you can see Stewart on the ground, most likely puzzled since he no longer had a face mask. Then, take a look at his broke helmet piece, just inches away from his face! The shot actually looks like all of the surrounding players were standing there in shock.
Stewart actually had to exit the field with the equipment staff to have his helmet repaired. Don’t worry, he was not injured. Now, let us note that those face masks are screwed on the helmets. Talk about a powerful hit! Unfortunately, he had to miss some epic plays while he took a brief break, but returned for the Panthers’ next offensive run. Luckily, Stewart made it through the remainder of the game without having his helmet smashed to pieces.
Now, while it may appear that Stewart was hit and down for the count after his face mask debacle, think again. The 29-year-old Panthers powerhouse was hit after leaping over players and throwing incredible stiff arms in the first half. In fact, he ended up gaining 132 yards, and the Panthers pulled a victory over the Redskins 26-15. It looks like that intense hit was all worth it for Stewart and his Carolina team.
