Could ‘True Detective’ season 3 actually happen? In an all-new interview, Matthew McConaughey is finally revealing whether or not he’d ever return to the series as the iconic Rust Cohle. Click to WATCH!
During an interview on The Rich Eisen Show, the host had brought up a previous interview where Matthew McConaughey, 47, indicated he might reprise his role as Rust Cohle in another season of True Detective. “I hear that all the time now,” Matthew said. “‘You said you were going to do season 3. When is it coming?’” He added that the “ball’s not advanced at all. I’ve talked to the creator Nic Pizzolatto who’s taking a little break from it.”
But Matthew is down to do another season if the script is good. “If that thing was written well and it came up again, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second,” he said. “Oh, I’m open to it for sure.”
Fans have been clamoring for Matthew and co-star Woody Harrelson, 55, to come back to True Detective ever since the underwhelming season 2 that starred Vince Vaughn, 46, Rachel McAdams, 38, Colin Farrell, 40, and Taylor Kitsch, 35. Matthew gave a career-changing performance, one that earned him an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination. Rust Cohle has become one of Matthew’s most well-known characters.
HBO network chief Casey Bloys has insisted that the show is “not dead, but there’s no take on a third season yet.” He added that the network is “open to someone else writing it and Nic supervising it.” If we’re going to do this right, then Nic, Matthew, and Woody need to be a part of it like they were in the first season.
