While Real Madrid is expected to win the tournament, if they sleep on their Mexican opponents, they’ll be headed back to Spain with a big loss. “We can’t think about the finals,” captain Sergio Ramos, 30, told FIFA.com ahead of the match. You have to stay focused on the next match, because objectives can only be achieved step by step. You have deal with obstacles as they present themselves and you always have to show respect for the rivals you come up against.”
Unlike the regular World Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup includes only seven teams – the winners of the Champions League of the seven continental Champions Leagues. This includes: AFC Champions League (Asia) CONCACAF Champions League (North America) Copa Libertadores (South America) OF Champions League (Oceana) and UEFA Champions League (Europe.)
This included Atletico Nacional from Columbia, Real Madrid from Spain, Auckland City from New Zealand, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors from South Korea, Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa, Club America from Mexico and hosts Kashina Antlers. The Japanese hosts have made it to the Semis, taking on Atletico Nacional.
The winner of that will face the winner of this match between Real Madrid and Club America. Interesting note: the final is set for Dec. 18, four days before Club America plays the first-of-two games against Tigres UNAL in Liga MX’s Apertura final. If Club America plays their cards right, they could be hosting two trophies within a week of each other.
