For the 500th time, Cristiano Ronaldo heard the announcer shout ‘goaaaaal!’ The 2016 Ballon d’Or winner netted his 500th club goal during Real Madrid’s game against Club America on Dec. 15 – and he made it look so, so easy. Click to watch.
It was the 93rd minute of the Club World Cup semifinal between Real Madrid and Club America when Cristiano Ronaldo, 31, notched his 500th club goal. Los Blancos were already up 1-0 on America, and as the final seconds were counting down, Ronaldo broke away to blast the ball past keeper Moises Munoz, 36. Leave it to Cristiano to have an amazing finish to the game!
Of course, the refs had to get involved and they almost stole Cristiano’s big moment away from him. While Ronaldo was celebrating, the officials actually reversed the ruling, claiming Cristiano was offside, per The Mirror. However, after ref Enrique Caceres, 42, asked for a video replay. Ultimately, they reversed the reversal, giving Ronaldo the goal.

Now, this is his 500th club goal. The Portuguese soccer pro scored his overall 500 goal for both club and country (aka playing for Portugal’s national team as well as teams like Manchester United and Real Madrid) in Sept. 2015, according to ESPN. This Club World Cup point was his 377th goal with Real Madrid, adding to the 118 goals he netted for Man U and the 5 goals he scored during his brief tenure with Sporting Lisbon. Wow. How many more will he make before he decides to hang the cleats up for good?
Ronaldo’s point was the cherry on top of the sundae served up by Karim Benzema, 28, who scored the first goal (off a Toni Kroos, 26, pass) right before halftime. This now extends Real Madrid’s unbeaten streak to 36 games. They’ll look both extend the streak to 37 and win the Club World Cup.
They’ll face the Kashima Antlers, the winners of the 2016 J1 League (and the host team of the 2016 Club World Cup), in the final on Dec. 18. If they win, this will be the reigning UEFA Champions League champs’ second world title in three years. Wow. Will Ronaldo score his 501st goal in that match?
What did you think about Ronaldo scoring his 500th club goal, HollywoodLifers? Do you think he’s the greatest soccer player in the world?
