“I have recently been asked by the president-elect to perform the national anthem for the swearing in ceremony at the inauguration,” Jackie shared in the interview. “I’m so excited. It’s going to be awesome!” Jackie placed second on America’s Got Talent when she was just ten years old, and has been singing ever since — we’re sure she’ll do a great job!
“What was it like to get that call?” Matt Lauer asked the young singer. “I felt really honored,” Jackie replied. “To be able to sing for the office, it’s a great honor for me.”
The anchors then pointed out that even though she’s only sixteen, this will actually be the second time Jackie performs for the First Family. She sang “O Holy Night” for the Obamas at the National Christmas Tree lighting in Washington, D.C., in 2010. “That was awesome. I got to meet [President Obama], he was really nice,” Jackie remembered. “I [feel] really honored to have the chance to perform for the President again.”
Finally, when asked if an honor like this ever sinks in, Jackie had to smile. “No. I kind of live in the moment,” she admitted. “It doesn’t register until years in the future.”
Presidential Inaugural Committee Communications Director Boris Epshteyn tells HollywoodLife.com in a statement: “We’re delighted to have Jackie Evancho performing the National Anthem at the 58th Presidential Inaugural Ceremony.
