Oh snap! Cristiano Ronaldo totally shaded rival Lionel Messi, declaring that he’d win more awards than him if they were on the same team! We have the scoop, here.
Cristiano Ronaldo, 31, may have beat his opponent Lionel Messi, 29, by winning the 2016 Ballon d’Or, but it seems he’s not stopping there! The soccer hunk — who has won the Ballon d’Or four times — dissed his rival on Dec. 13 in a big way. “It would be interesting to see both of us in the same team. I think great players should play together. So if we were in the same team, I think I would have more than him, but he wouldn’t be far off,” Cristiano told France Football. Wow! We wonder what Lionel himself thinks about the shade he just got!
Still, despite the shade, Cristiano admitted that he thinks his opponent is still an amazing player! “Everyone knows Messi is a great player,” he admitted. “He’s won five Ballons d’Or.” But I always want to win everything.” Well, that we definitely understand, and we’re glad to hear Cristiano still supporting his fellow talented soccer star.
In case you’re not quite sure just what the Ballon d’Or is, it’s a pretty big deal! It’s a soccer award presented by France Football, given out every year. While Cristiano won his first Ballon d’Or in 2008 when he was a player for Manchester United, Lionel won in 2009. Not only that, but the two rivals have traded winning the award back and forth for the last eight years. Does this mean that Lionel will win the award in 2017? Only time will tell at this point, but we are definitely rooting for the both of them.
