YIKES, this is awkward! Anna Kendrick was announcing nominations for the 2017 Golden Globe Awards and completely flubbed while trying to pronounce Caitriona Bafle. Watch it all go down here!
If you don’t actually know how to pronounce Caitriona Balfe, this one probably would’ve flown right over your head! While saying the Outlander star’s name at the Golden Globe nominations, Anna Kendrick read it just as it looks: Cait-ree-oh-na Balf-e. The real pronunciation, though, is a lot simpler: Ca-tree-na Balf. Yep. Knowing the right way to say it makes the moment pretty cringeworthy — watch here:
Caitriona is nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Outlander, and she’s up against Claire Foy (The Crown), Keri Russell (The Americans), Winona Ryder (Stranger Things), and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld), so there’s obviously some stiff competition! This is Caitriona’s second year nominated in the category, although she lost to Taraji P Henson (Empire).
Anna is always so great about poking fun at herself and laughing things off, so chances are, she’s not letting this flub get to her too much. And obviously we’re already looking forward to the hilarious tweet she might send out about the situation later!
La La Land leads the way for this year’s list of nominations, with Manchester By The Sea also recognized as a favorite when it comes to movies. As always, Game of Thrones is also being recognized, while hot new show, Stranger Things, scored two nods of its own, including one for Best TV Series, Drama.
The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards will air live on Jan. 8 at 8:00 p.m. EST, with Jimmy Fallon hosting the NBC broadcast. Of course, we’ll have full coverage, so make sure you stay tuned!
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Anna mispronouncing Caitriona’s name? Did you know how to say it?
