President-elect Donald Trump is expected to have made yet another selection in his quest to fill his cabinet. The businessman turned politician selected another businessman, the head of ExxonMobil, to be our next secretary of state. Get the scoop on CEO Rex Tillerson and what he will bring to Donald’s cabinet.
1. He will be the country’s top diplomat.
Donald Trump, 70, has picked Rex Tillerson, 64, to join his administration as the U.S. secretary of state, NBC News reported. The role is an extremely important one, as the secretary of state is the country’s biggest diplomat. So this selection is not to be taken lightly, as he would also be fourth in line to be president.
2. He’s currently a businessman. A big one.
He’s the CEO of Exxon Mobil, the fifth largest company by market capitalization. So, he and Donald can definitely talk business while in the Oval Office.
3. He beat out some big names for the job.
Donald picked Rex over 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who met with Donald twice before the decision was made. Though Mitt has the political experience, it looks like Donald was looking for something else in his secretary of state.
4. He’s already dealt with other countries.
As CEO of Exxon, Rex oversees operations in more than 50 countries, one of which is Russia. So he does have some foreign relations experience, though not in the political realm.
5. He is not big on government regulation.
He made it clear in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, he thinks, “there are a thousand ways you can be told ‘no’ in this country.” He’s definitely very fiscally conservative which lines up with Donald’s own business style.
