On the same day that it was revealed Louis Tomlinson’s mother tragically passed away, a snippet from the singer’s first solo son, ‘Just Hold On,’ was released online — and the heartbreaking lyrics seem to be about his mom’s tragic battle with leukemia. Listen here.
Louis Tomlinson, 24, is the latest member of One Direction to go solo. The former boy bander teamed up with Steve Aoki for a brand new song called “Just Hold On,” and a snippet showed up online on Dec. 9.
“Until it’s all been said / it’s not over until your dying breath / So what do you want them to say when you’re gone? / That you gave up or that you kept going on? What do you do when a chapter ends? / Do you close the book and never read it again? / Where do you go when your story’s done? / You can be who you want or who you’ll become / If it all goes wrong, darling just hold on / The sun goes down and it comes back up / The world still turns no matter what,” Louis sings on the track.
Louis was expected to debut this song on The X-Factor on Dec. 10, as it was reportedly his mother’s dying wish to have him return to the show that made him famous. Johannah Deakin tragically passed away from leukemia on Dec. 7 at the age of 43, and it’s reported that Louis will still take the stage during the big finale to pay tribute to her.
“Just Hold On” definitely seems to be sending an optimistic message to someone going through a hard time, so it certainly wouldn’t be surprising if it’s about what Louis has been going through with his mother since her diagnosis in May. The song is super upbeat, though, so it’s unclear if he’ll still perform this, or go for a more emotional, stripped-down tune, for his X-Factor appearance.
