Happy Birthday, Kirk Douglas! The iconic star, known for legendary roles in films like ‘Spartacus’ and ’20,000 Leagues Under The Sea,’ turned 100-years-old on Dec. 9. His son, Michael Douglas, led the parade of celebs like Catherine Zeta-Jones and Edgar Wright in celebrating Kirk’s life. Click to see!
With Kirk Douglas turning a century old on Dec. 9, his son, Michael Douglas, 72, couldn’t wait until the official birthday to honor the seven-decades Kirk spent in front of a movie camera. At the 95th anniversary of the Motion Picture and Television Fund on Oct. 1, Michael took a moment to honor an “institution” that was older than the MPTF – his father, according to The Wrap.
“I’m here with an additional mission, one that is a joy for me to share with you,” he said, one month before Kirk’s big day. “My Dad turns 100 years old…my dad is a legend, an icon, he’s a true movie star from an era when movie stars were looked upon as our versions of royalty. Kirk earned that status.” Indeed he has!
While Michael couldn’t wait to break out the cake and candles, his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, 47, was far more patient. She waited until Kirk’s actual birthday to celebrate, posting a video on her Instagram that showed pictures of him through the years. With David Bowie’s “Young Americans” playing as scenes from his life and career flew by, the actress said, “Love you, Pappy.” She even included a video of him dancing! How sweet!
She even showed “Spartacus’s Grandchildren In Training,” which saw Dylan Douglas, 16, and Carys Zeta Douglas, 13, battling out just like Kirk did in his famous movie. Maybe if they attempt another remake, they may actually cast either Dylan or Carys. That would be cool.
Perhaps Edgar Wright, 42, could direct? The Hot Fuzz director wished Kirk a happy 100th, along with many fans of Kirk’s amazing journey. “What a life,” Piers Morgan, 51, wrote, while many shared pictures from Kirk’s numerous movies. What a life, indeed.

Kirk, born Issur Danielovitch to Russian-Jewish parents, said that he fell in love with acting while reciting “The Red Robin of Spring” in kindergarten, according to Fox News. “Something happened when I heard applause. I loved it. I still do,” he wrote. He had a chance to share that love with his family, appearing in 2003’s It Runs in the Family, which included Michael, grandson Cameron Douglas. Amazing!
