He went out of his way to make a big move on ‘Survivor,’ only to be voted out at the very next tribal council for that exact reason. So, what would Will have done differently? He reveals the answer AND fills us in on what we didn’t see on TV during that game-changing vote!
Will made a huge move on the Nov. 30 episode of Survivor — he flipped on his alliance to make sure one of the power players, Zeke, was voted out! Of course, it ended up not mattering, as Adam played his immunity idol for Hannah anyway, eliminating all the votes against her and sending the Season 33 threat home, regardless. But, as viewers, what we didn’t see was how carefully Will thought this decision through…and how much work he was doing at camp to make sure it went his way.
“I told the other side before we went to tribal that [Hannah was getting the votes],” he tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “I told them for awhile that it was going to be Hannah. For most of the day, it was going to be Hannah, and I did tell that side that.” Obviously, it ended up not mattering that he filled David’s alliance in on the vote, because Zeke would’ve went home even if Adam didn’t play the idol, but this definitely gives us a new sense of just how determined Will really was to build that resume!
Unfortunately, it ended up not working out in his favor — the rest of the tribe was threatened by the teenager’s desire to do something big, and sent him packing at the next vote. “I regret how early I [tried to make a move],” he admits. I think I should’ve waited another tribal or two. I think I should’ve trusted Jay a little bit more. Looking back, he was my ride or die that I just never gave the time of day. I was the bad alliance member in that alliance. If I trusted him more and waited longer, I think it would’ve worked out better.”

The Zeke vote — did you know you were going to flip the whole time or was it really a last min decision at tribal?
I felt like I needed to flip and that I needed to start building up my resume because in past tribals, I would see the jury and they wouldn’t really look at me as somebody they respected. They looked at me as a little kid they had sympathy for. I really wanted to build up this resume. So, right after family visit, I got this idea — hey, I’m going to flip. And I’m going to be the only one to flip. That’ll be my move. That was the idea.
But at tribal when you were getting pressure from the other side and Jay gave you that big speech — were you ever swayed not to flip?
Right after Ken blew up my game, i wanted to vote Ken out. Then the vote kind of shifted to where I wanted to vote Jay out, and then it went back to Zeke. I was all over the place. I never expected the whole tribe to hear my strategy, so at the last minute I thought I had to change something and do something bigger, but it ended up all coming back to Zeke.
How did you feel about Adam playing the idol – do you think it took away from your big move since the vote would’ve then still been Zeke even if you didn’t flip?
I had no idea that Adam had an idol. When he played it, I was shocked. But I was also kind of happy. Because he didn’t need to play that idol — he is wasting an idol and someone is going home regardless. I didn’t look at it as negative. It did take the spotlight off me a little, but the way I see it, I ended up flushing out Adam’s idol.
When you went home, did you know you were a target? Were you shocked by the vote?
If you asked me this during the day, I would’ve said yes, I was shocked. But when I was going to tribal and getting ready to go to tribal, I started getting a really bad feeling. At that point, it was too late to convince Bret or Sunday not to flip, and the only thing I could do was convince Jay to play the idol for me, which I knew he wouldn’t do. So I was drawing dead at that point. I kept going back and forth in my mind — half was like, you’re safe, half was like, no, you’re in trouble.
Any regrets in the game as a whole?
Just going back to that Zeke vote — I’d wait another tribal or two.
Would you play again?
Absolutely, I’d definitely play survivor again if i had the opportunity
