How would you describe the last 10 episodes?
Oh my god. They were amazing. They were probably a different experience than I’ve ever had on Pretty Little Liars because when we were filming them we began to truly understand that we would be saying goodbye. We really poured our heart and soul into it because we knew it would be the last time. I think it’s something that the fans are going to see a difference in and they are going to understand.
What can you say about how Spencer will be dealing with the revelation that Mary Drake is her mother?
Well, Spencer got shot. She’s got a lot to deal with. It’s not exactly the best physical situation. She’s going to be dealing with a lot of health issues. We still don’t know the state of her health when we pick up. Then beyond that, if she does come back from getting shot, in the heart or around the heart, she’s got a lot to deal with with her family. Whether or not that’s true, what it means, how the heck it happened. She’s got a lot to figure out.
Would you say that fans are going to get all the answers to their questions by the end of the series?
You know, I can’t promise every fan that they will get every question they’ve asked answered. I can say that I do believe that the majority of fans will be really excited. We have done our best to wrap up all the mysteries on the show, while maintaining a lot of new, fun, exciting things to deliver that fans won’t expect. I do believe everybody is going to be blown away by the end of this whole story.
What was your reaction to Uber A?
Spencer knows a lot, and Troian knows a lot. I’ve made it my business to know a lot over 7 years. I kind of feel like the boy who cried wolf. I kind of feel like Spencer has said out loud who she thinks A is a number of times. She’s been wrong, but I’ve not been wrong. So when I found out, it was an overwhelming feeling of excitement and satisfaction.
Toby and Spencer had quite the goodbye scene in the 7A finale — what’s next for them?
Everyone thinks that was a good little goodbye scene. I thought it was weird and desperate and really unhealthy. Which I think, to me and not in a negative way, is the most fascinating part of their relationship. When Spencer and Toby were saying goodbye, there was a way they could have done it as adults, and they chose not to do it that way. So I think it’s going to lead to a big mess down the line. Even if it’s just the guilt that Spencer’s going to carry once she finds out that Toby and Yvonne were in that huge car accident.
