The last time Gold competed in a round of competitive golf, it was in the 2015 Wyndham Championship, according to He tied for 10th place. The 2015 season was a bad one for Tiger, as he only played four rounds at seven tournaments. He missed the cut for three of the four majors. He might as well have sat that one out, as Tiger finished 17th at the Masters. Yikes.

What followed was a round of back surgery and a lot of disappointment. Tiger said he would return to golf and hoped to make the Safeway Open. He couldn’t make it in time, but announced on Nov. 1 that he would return to the Hero World Challenge.

There’s nerves, of course, because I care about what I do out there,” Tiger said ahead of the tournament, according to The New York Times. Thankfully, there’s no pain. “I’m sitting here in front of you guys with a different reality because things have improved so much.” That’s great news!

If there were any place for Tiger to stage a comeback, it would be this. This tournament is hosted by Tiger himself and it only features 18 top-ranked golf pros. This year sees b 32, Jordan Spieth, 23, Hideki Matsuyama, 24, Brooks Koepka, 26, Henrik Stenson, 40, Patrick Reed, 26, Rickie Fowler, 27, Justin Rose, 36, and Bubba Watson, 38. Dustin and Jordan are the odds on favorites. While Tiger isn’t expected to win, the golf world is just glad to see him back.
