This is absolutely heartbreaking and completely inspiring, all at the same time. Evan Rachel Wood has revealed that she was raped not once, but twice, in a letter she penned to ‘Rolling Stone’ and has now shared on social media. See Evan’s brave letter here.
Evan Rachel Wood, 29, found the courage to pen a very serious letter, in which she revealed she had been raped on two separate occasions, to Rolling Stone while the magazine was putting together a story on the Westworld actress. “Yes. I have been raped,” Evan wrote in the letter, which she shared on Twitter on Nov. 28. “By a significant other while we were together. And on a separate occasion, by the owner of a bar.”

“I think, like a lot of women, I had the urge to not make it a sob story, to not make it about me,” she wrote. “I think deep down I also didn’t want to be accused of doing it for attention, or told that it wasn’t a big deal, or, ‘That’s not really rape.’” Evan said she had previously been reluctant to share her story, but doesn’t “believe we live in a time where people can stay silent any longer.” “I certainly can’t. Not given the state our world is in with its blatant bigotry and sexism.”
Evan emailed the letter to the magazine the day after Donald Trump won the presidential election, according to the Nov. 17 Rolling Stone piece. “I am still standing. I am alive. I am happy. I am strong. But I am still not OK.” Evan told the magazine that she had been abused in a “physical, psychological [and] sexual” manner.
“This was many many years ago and I of course know now neither one was my fault and neither one was OK,” Evan continued. “This was all before I tried to commit suicide and I am sure was one of the many factors … there you have it.” How very brave it was of Evan to share those experiences to help others.
