This is SO heartbreaking. Just one day before Thanksgiving, on Nov. 23, 8-year-old Sabrina Stauffenberg was sexually assaulted and killed after being abducted from her front porch in Illinois! The child was waiting for a bus to take her to church when she was attacked. A man has since been charged with her murder and is in custody — get all the tragic details here.
Sabrina Stauffenberg, 8, was patiently waiting on her front porch in Olney, Illinois for a church bus to take her to a service when she was kidnapped and later killed — just one day before Thanksgiving on Nov. 23. Later that night, her body was found near a vinegar plant, hours after she vanished, according to the Belleville News-Democrat.
Just days later on Nov. 27, police arrested 53-year-old Glen Ramey in connection with Sabrina’s death. The suspect was taken into custody around 2:20 a.m. that day and charged with first-degree murder as well as predatory sexual assault.
“She was standing on her front porch, waiting for the church bus. She was on the phone with her grandma at the time,” Denise Haley, a friend of Sabrina’s family, told the media outlet. “She was telling her grandma that the church bus hadn’t come.” Sabrina’s grandmother then hung up and called the church to ask why the bus was late. But when she tried to call Sabrina back, there was sadly no answer.
Apparently Glen was dating a relative of Sabrina’s, according to Denise. She also said he was known to have had mental health problems. “We’re just glad they caught the real killer, and now this family can mourn the loss of this beautiful child,” Denise added, who set up a GoFundMe page to help the girl’s family with her funeral and burial costs.
On the page, Denise wrote, “Last night this little girl was taken too soon. Although details are slim and our whole community is grieving such a horrific loss nothing can compare to what the family is experiencing.” She added, “She trusted everybody. She loved to play outside. She just learned how to ride a bike, so she loved riding her bike.”
Glen has not yet entered a plea and is currently being held at the Richland County jail. Online records show that his bail has not been set. And although he is named as a defendant in several orders of protection filed by multiple women in both 2014 and 2016, he is not listed on the Illinois’ sex offender registry.
Our hearts go out to Sabrina’s friends and family during this extremely difficult time. HollywoodLifers, please leave your condolences for her loved ones below.
