Arizona, to put it bluntly, is hurting. They lost to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11, falling 30-24. To make things worse, head coach Bruce Arians was hospitalized with chest pains after the game, per the Bleacher Report. Bruce has since recovered (and is expected to be fine) so the Cards might be motivated to win this game as a way to make their boss feel better.
Sadly, the odds aren’t in their favor. This game is on the Falcons’ home turf, the Georgia Dome. Atlanta has won the last seven home games with Arizona. Despite not being an offensive force at home for this season, they’re still the favorites to crush the Cardinals in this game.
With their back against the wall, the Cardinals are pretty much playing with nothing to lose. That has Atlanta’s quarterback, Matt Ryan, 31, bracing for impact from the Cardinals’ defense. “They’re big. They’ve got tall guys. Calais Campbell is a big guy,” he said during a radio appearance on Atlanta’s 680 The Fan, per ESPN. “Chandler Jones, you mentioned. They get after the passer really well. They’ve got a big pressure package. They blitz quite a bit.”
For Arizona, the playoffs actually start now. With a 4-5 record, another loss practically eliminates them from the Wild Card hunt. As for Atlanta, they stand on top of the NFC South division. So long as they stay ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers, they should be good.
