A big round of applause is in store for Gia the Greyhound! The stunning pooch was named Best in Show at the 2016 National Dog Show Nov. 24. Keep reading for all the details on the pup’s big Thanksgiving win!
Whew! After two thousand pups from a whopping 202 breeds were shown in the ring at the National Dog Show Presented by Purina, it came down to Gia the Greyhound winning it all, being named Best in Show! This is her 44th Best in Show victory and it should come as no surprise as she the most winning hound in the country. The pooch comes from dog show royalty, as Gia’s mom was the winner of 26 Best in Shows. Talk about a perfect pedigree!
It was a pretty stiff competition against the winners of the six other groups. While Gia took the Hound Group, the Herding Group’s champ was a gorgeous Border Collie named Rondo. As for the Working Group, a very excited Giant Schnauzer was tipped as top dog while over in the Terrier Group it was an adorable West Highland White Terrier that got the nod. The Toy Group saw Chuck the Pekingese reign supreme, and in the Sporting Group a stunning Springer Spaniel won top honors. Finally in the Non-Sporting Group it was the Tibetan Terrier who took the win.
The annual event took place Nov. 19-20 in Oaks, PA, hosted by the Philadelphia Kennel Club. But NBC has made it a Thanksgiving Day tradition by broadcasting all the cuteness following the epic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. It’s the absolute perfect alternative to football and has become such a welcome turkey day viewing treat! What’s not to love about spending two hours kicking back and watching all these cute pups!
Gia takes over the prestigious title from 2015’s champ, a 4½-year-old Skye Terrier named Good Time Charlie, who was named Best in Show from among the seven group winners.
