Kanye West was reportedly hospitalized and placed on a 5150 hold, leading many to wonder what led to the rapper’s shocking breakdown. Now, two doctors explain to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY how sleep deprivation could have been a MAJOR factor.
The exact reason behind Kanye West‘s hospitalization still remains unknown, but fans are obviously very concerned about his well-being. His own physician Michael Farzam was the one who reportedly contacted police on Nov. 21, claiming that his patient was suffering from temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration. To break it down, HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY spoke to Dr. Robert J. Bos, who explains how the rapper’s lack of sleep and busy lifestyle could have led to a breakdown. “Kanye’s probably under so much stress and hasn’t slept for days. The treatment is to take a break because he sounds completely burnt out.”
He added, “It may spill over into a true mental condition in which case, he would need medication like mood stabilizers and tranquilizers; Mostly tranquilizers like Klonopin, Valium and Ativan.” As we previously reported, Kanye was picked ip by an ambulance from the home of at his trainer, Harley Pasternak after someone called the police, claiming he was acting “erratically.” Ye tried to resist being transported to the hospital for observation, and may have been handcuffed to a stretcher and transported to UCLA Medical Center based on his doctor’s opinion, TMZ reports.
So could Kanye’s latest health crisis be caused by more than sleep deprivation? Dr. Bos explained, “I would say what Kanye has is beyond sleep deprivation. This sleep deprivation can be the trigger for a real mental illness like major anxiety, depression, manic episodes, or psychotic episodes in which you can lose touch with reality. It sounds like Kanye had a manic or psychotic episode.” Dr. Dexter Sun, Clinical Professor of Neurology At New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medicine, also explained that sleep deprivation would have a major effect on his health. He said Kanye would likely “not be doing things as properly as he normally would.”
