Swoon! Panic! At The Disco’s fans were certainly seeing stars because their cover of The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’ absolutely slayed. Brendon Urie and the rest of the boys pulled out their amazing rendition of the R&B jam, and it’s to die for. Click to watch!
It seems Brendon, 29, was inspired after watching The Weeknd, 26, crush the performance of “Starboy” at the 2016 American Music Awards. A day after that stellar performance, Panic! At The Disco gave their own spin on the new hit while stopping by BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge on Nov. 21.
“Switched it up,” the band tweeted when they shared their video. Brendon’s upright piano was such a great addition to the song, which played delightfully against the band’s “alt-pop electric guitar,” as described by Billboard. Can’t argue with that.
So, does that mean we can possibly see a team-up between these two? How cool would that be? After all, The Weeknd’s kaleidoscope-style performance at the AMAs was one of the biggest highlights of the Nov. 20 awards show. To see The Weeknd and Brendon bounce verses back and forth on stage together? It would be phenomenal — almost as good as the epic team-up between Kendrick Lamar, 29, and Maroon 5 that closed out the AMAs.
Perhaps Brendon might be too nervous to approach The Weeknd to pitch the hypothetical collab, as the group’s frontman has opened up about his battles with anxiety. “If I saw someone that I admired, I would love to have that interaction,” he said, according to NME. “I never do, though, cause I’m an anxious f*cker; but it’s really great to have that option.” Of course, Brendon’s anxiety is not just a case of being starstruck, as he said that he gets “anxiety problems being in certain scenarios.”
Understandable. The world is a very nervous and scary place. Thankfully, it’s much better – especially for Panic! At The Disco fans – thanks to the band, as they dropped their new album, Death of a Bachelor, at the start of 2016. The record has probably helped Panic! fans get through their own anxiety and feel – as The Weeknd sings – “like a starboy.”
