Shocking new details have emerged in Kanye West’s hospitalization, after a new report claims that the rapper was placed on a 5150 hold by his doctor. Kanye’s personal doctor allegedly told police that his ‘patient’ was going to get violent, and they needed to help.
Kanye West, 39, was allegedly placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold by his personal doctor, Dr. Michael Farzam, on November 21, according to a police report obtained by TMZ. The report states that Dr. Farzam called 911 and said that he put his patient on the hold, and wanted him taken to UCLA Medical Center; it’s apparently still in question if the doctor actually made the 5150 hold.
The call reportedly came in as a “male with a mental illness,” and the doctor told the 911 dispatcher that his patient was not being violent, but would likely become violent when police arrived. He said his patient, named “Jim Jones,” a man suffering from “temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration.” Kanye allegedly attempted to assault a staff member at a gym earlier that day, according to the police report.
A 5150 is an involuntary psychiatric hold under California law that allows an officer or doctor to confine an individual who they believe “is a danger to themselves or others” due to their mental state. It can also be implemented if the officer or doctor believes the person is incapable of making their own decisions due to psychiatric issues. This is what happened during Britney Spears‘ infamous 2007 meltdown, in which she was seen in harrowing photos being wheeled in a stretcher from her house, crying with her head shaved.
Kanye’s hospitalization comes after he shockingly ranted at his Sacramento concert on November 19 about Jay Z and Beyonce after playing for just 15 minutes, and then canceled his Saint Pablo tour completely earlier in the day on November 21.
HollywoodLifers, our thoughts are with Kanye during this difficult time. We’re hoping him a safe and speedy recovery!
