Oh man! The Weeknd completely owned his AMAs performance with a rousing version of ‘Starboy.’ The newly single singer had the audience on their feet with his memorable appearance, so keep reading for more on his incredible night Nov. 20!
All hail The Weeknd! Real name Abél Tesfaye, 26, he never lets us down with his live performances and he gave us such a treat with his new mega-hit “Starboy.” This song is so dang infectious, and his AMA rendition was off the hook. He appeared in a shiny icy-looking tunnel that turned various different bright colors, and he looked super stylish in a black and white patterned coat and skinny black pants.
He sang mainly to the camera for the fist half of the performance, until be emerged from the tunnel and headed towards the audience, who went wild for him as he took the main stage. Everyone was on their feet and moving to the beat, including Drake, 30, who was seen singing along to the song and swaying to the music. If you can get Drizzy going, you are something really special!
While we’re bummed Daft Punk didn’t join him like they do on the title track of his upcoming album, he owned the stage with his slick moves and smooth voice. We’re still totally loving his new shorter hair that shows off his incredibly handsome face. Swoon! Good looks and mega talent, he’s absolutely got it all!

Things must have been a little awkward for the singer as his ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid‘s sister Gigi, 21, was co-hosting the big awards show with SNL alum Jay Pharoah, 29. The Weeknd and the 20-year-old model called it quits earlier in Nov. after nearly a year of dating, but for their sake we hope if was a friendly breakup. They’re going to end up sharing the same stage during the upcoming Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, where The Weeknd will be performing and Bella will be strutting down their catwalk for the first time.
This could be a really big night for Abel, as he’s a is a two-time AMA winner, and up for three more nominations in 2016, including Favorite Male Artist, Pop/Rock, Artist of the Year and Favorite Male Artist – Soul/R&B. Unfortunately for him, he’s going head to head with fan favorite Justin Bieber, 22, in the first two categories, so we hope he’s still able to go home with a trophy of some kind.
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of The Weeknd’s performance? Was it one of your favorites of the night?
