After two days of President-elect Donald Trump demanding the cast of ‘Hamilton’ apologize to vice president-elect Mike Pence for a speech made to him at a production on Nov. 18, Mike has piped in to say that he feels totally fine with the situation. Weird, right? Watch Mike explain how he doesn’t feel offended.
While President-elect Donald Trump is ranting and raving on Twitter about how his future vice president was “harassed” at a production of Hamilton on Nov. 18, when the cast addressed him following the performance, Mike Pence is letting people know he’s definitely not on the same page. “I did hear what was said from the stage, and I can tell you I wasn’t offended by what was said. I’ll leave to others whether that was the appropriate venue to say it,” Mike said in an appearance on Fox News Sunday on Nov. 20. Uh, did they get their signals crossed or something? Shouldn’t Donald have checked with his VP as to whether he actually was “harassed” before defending his honor?
Setting aside how weird it is that Donald and Mike are so out of sync on their interpretations of what actually went down, Mike did say he and Donald will be leaders for “all of us,” just as the cast asked him to be in their message. “I do want to say that the basic element, the center of that message is one I want to address. I know this is a very disappointing time for people who did not see their candidate win in this national election. I know this is a very anxious time for some people. I just want to reassure people that what President-elect Donald Trump said on election night, he absolutely meant from the bottom of his heart. He is preparing to be the president of all of the people of the United States of America,” Mike said. Well, okay then.
“To watch him bringing together diverse views, bringing together people that differ with him strongly, seeing him talk to leaders around the world,” Mike continued. “I just want to reassure every American that in the days ahead, I’m very confident they’re going to see President-elect Donald Trump be a president for all the people. We embrace that principle and we’re going to work hard to make that principle every day that we serve.” Let’s hope so!
