Well that was quick! Donald Trump is taking care of some of his messy business dealings before entering the White House, suddenly settling a massive lawsuit against his defunct Trump University. Keep reading for all the details.
Just days before a class action lawsuit against Trump University was to begin, President-Elect Donald Trump, 70, has up and settled the case Nov. 18 for $25 million. New York’s Attorney General Eric Schneiderman confirmed the resolution, calling it “a stunning reversal by Donald Trump and a major victory for the over 6,000 victims of his fraudulent university.”
Donald staunchly defended his Trump University real estate seminars throughout his campaign, despite numerous lawsuits that had been filed against it calling the organization a total scam. With the lawsuit coming to trial on Nov. 28, the tycoon obviously wanted to get it settled and out of the way so he had one less public headache before taking on the serious business of becoming our president. In the settlement, Donald won’t admit any wrongdoing in the case.
In filing his lawsuit, Eric claimed that Trump University was a “fraud from beginning to end,” and suggested that Donald personally profited $5 million from it. “Using false promises to prey on desperate people has long been a hallmark of ‘snake-oil salesmen,’” he said in July. “A lawsuit by my office alleges that Donald Trump was basically doing the same thing with Trump University.”
The school, which shuttered in 2010, promised students that they would learn real estate development strategies from Donald and teachers that he personally selected. Instead, once they enrolled they were encouraged to take more expensive classes with instructors Donald had no input with and never got anywhere near the billionaire.
HollywoodLifers, are you surprised Donald settled the lawsuit? Or was it for the best instead of letting it go to trial.
