Voters are both devastated and livid over President-elect Donald Trump’s reported pick for his Secretary of State. Trump favors former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani for the position, and that prospect has people seriously worried. Click through to see some of their reactions!
He was once called America’s Mayor. But now Rudy Giuliani, 72, may become the country’s top diplomat to foreign countries, if President-elect Donald Trump, 70, has his way. Rudy has been one of Trump’s biggest cheerleaders, supporting him unconditionally throughout election season. And now, Trump may be rewarding him with a position on his cabinet: Secretary of State. While the appointment is not official, even the thought of Rudy being the representative of the United States abroad is sending chills down voters’ spines!
A serious flaw is that Rudy doesn’t have any foreign policy experience, nor military experience. The closest thing he’s done is work as a lawyer and international security consultant. He was, of course, the mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001, rising to national prominence while leading the city through the aftermath of 9/11. He’s made some questionable remarks in recent interviews that have left voters worried about him being our connection to foreign powers. In a September interview, he (incorrectly) said that “anything is legal” during war. That’s extremely troublesome.
It’s to the point that even Republican allies are against his appointment. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, who ran against Trump in the 2016 presidential election, said he opposes Rudy as Secretary of State. Rand serves on the Senate foreign relations committee, and believes that Rudy would be a “[threat] to civil liberties.”
Rudy’s job during the Trump presidency would be to maintain the good relations the country has with our allies, and prevent conflicts with other foreign powers. But considering Trump’s controversial positions on countries like Mexico and China, and his close ties with Vladimir Putin, Rudy may mess things up of he goes along with ideas like building the wall between Mexico and the United States, or even severing ties with NATO. He’s openly criticized President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran and suggested attacking the country that we have no problems with at the moment. Voters are terrified:

Can't handle the thought of Rudy Giuliani being anywhere but locked inside an '81 Datsun buried in a 90 foot ditch on Pluto.

I want to drain the swamp, so let me hire swamp pool boys Newt Gingrich, Chris Christie and Rudy Giuliani.

When @newtgingrich and Rudy Giuliani are the grownups in the room, the room is in trouble.

Are we sure that the entire Trump presidency isn’t a long play con to show how much of an idiot Rudy Giuliani is

@realDonaldTrump Please no on Rudy Giuliani. No neocons. Will cost us$$$$ & mass refugees. Pls pick at least 50% people we all like.

While I'm hesitant to critique Trump's presidency until he actually gets in office, John Bolton & Rudy Giuliani are regrettable SoS choices
