The first full-length trailer for ‘Patriots Day’ has arrived. The movie chronicles the horrific 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. April 15, 2013, was just an ordinary day for the Boston Marathon, until it wasn’t. During the race, two explosions rocked Boylston Street in a horrific terrorist attack that shocked the world. Mark Wahlberg plays Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders and helps save the lives of victims as they lay injured on the ground. He joins investigators in a race to stop the bombers from hurting anyone else. The film chronicles everything from the bombing at the Boston Marathon to the terrifying showdown in Watertown.
Patriots Day is the first feature film about the Boston Marathon bombing. The movie is based on the book Boston Strong by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge, which chronicles what happened that day with first-hand accounts from the victims and the citizens of Boston.
Mark is a Boston native and the city is very near and dear to his heart. In regards to the movie about the Boston Marathon bombing, where 3 people died and more than 200 were injured, Mark told the Boston Globe, “There’s huge pressure to get this right, but we’re committed to doing that.”
The movie also stars John Goodman as Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, J.K. Simmons as Watertown Police Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese, Kevin Bacon as FBI Special Agent in Charge Richard DesLauriers, Alex Wolff as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, and Melissa Benoist as Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s wife Katherine Russell.
Patriots Day will open in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles on December 21, 2016. The film will open nationwide on January 13, 2017.
