Donald Trump winning the 2016 presidential election boggled the minds of so many Americans. But no one was more confused than poll experts, who were completely blown away by the results of the election. One such expert was Sam Wang, a professor who agreed to eat a bug if Donald won. So, on Nov.12, that’s just what he did — on live TV.
Princeton professor and poll expert Sam Wang was so sure of the outcome of the 2016 presidential election, that he agreed he would eat a bug if Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, 70, won 240 electoral votes on Election Day on Nov. 8. And, because the now President-elect ended up winning a staggering 290 votes that day, Sam went on CNN on Nov. 12 to fulfill his promise to eat that bug. Ick!

But, before he downed a spoonful of gourmet, honey-covered crickets he decided to remind everyone about the real issues at hand now that Donald is president, rather than his own stunt. “I think that the eating bug thing is itself sensationalist and it keeps us off of important policy issues such as Supreme Court appointments,” Sam said. “There are things that can happen to bring the country together, but I think the bug thing is not one of them.”
But, in spite of all that talk, he still agreed that he’d eat the bug, as promised. “I was wrong, a lot of people were wrong, but nobody else made the promise I did.” Afterward, Sam tweeted, “blech.” Blech, indeed! We’re wondering how many other people out there made other crazy bets because they were so sure that Donald would never win the election. Let’s hope Sam was in fact the only one who really needed to eat a bug!
