To match their fearless attitudes, Rowan Blanchard and Yara Shahidi rocked bold beauty looks on the December cover of ‘Teen Vogue.’ The teen actresses and BFFs not only posed for the cover in chic top knots and bold eyeliner, but they also served as guest editors for the mag. Get the details on the girls’ looks and see what they had to say about being teen activists, ahead.
Rowan Blanchard, 15, and Yara Shahidi, 16, are all-around goals on the December issue of Teen Vogue. The actresses, who are known for their roles on the television shows Girl Meets World and Black-ish, are also known for speaking up about social issues.
For their cover looks, the girls called in celebrity hairstylist Lacy Redway, who gave the girls matching top knots. Opting for a more natural look over the slicked back and sleek styles so often on the red carpet, Lacy worked with Yara and Rowan’s natural texture, sitting the knots just above the crown of the head. While Rowan’s hair was left straight with pieces left out for an imperfect look, Lacy played up Yara’s gorgeous curls, creating a fuller updo style.
For their makeup, Lottie Stannard switched up their looks, giving Rowan bold blue eyeliner while Yara sported barely-there makeup and glowing skin. Both girls got groomed brows and a simple lip balm to finish up their looks.
More importantly, inside the mag, the girls shared their feelings on representation in Hollywood, activism and the election. “To me, activism is a need to know, a need to explain, and a need to help,” Rowan explained to Teen Vogue. “At first I was very scared of the term. I thought, Am I actually doing enough? Then I realized that oftentimes existing is activism in itself.”
Yara shared her views as well, saying, “For me, just being on a show called Black-ish, race became an unavoidable conversation. It gave me this platform to address these topics, and that opened the doors to develop my voice in an intentional way.”
