So inspiring! Sen. Elizabeth Warren has a hopeful message for everyone feeling fearful that Donald Trump could enact any misogynistic or bigoted policies as our new president. Keep reading for her words of wisdom as to how people can work to fight back against some of his scary goals.
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is such an amazing voice for the people, and with Donald Trump, 70, becoming our President-Elect, the 67-year-old is telling everyone left feeling helpless to get out there and help the organizations that can do battle with him and the Republican controlled House and Senate.
“Get out there and volunteer. Volunteer for Planned Parenthood. Give a couple of hours a week to them,” she told Rachel Maddow on her MSNBC show Nov. 10. That organization has such a target on it from congressional Republicans and now that Donald is heading to the White House, their efforts to defund it might terrifyingly happen. Fortunately, President Obama is working towards securing their financing permanently before he leaves office in Jan.
“Or to any other organization that matters to you,” she continued. “Environmental organizations, immigrants rights organizations, someone who’s working on economic justice, who’s working on financial reform.” With a Trump presidency we’ll see major shifts in how Washington deals with climate change, and of course we already know how Donald feels about immigration, with his deportation plans and his vow to build a border wall and make Mexico pay for it. The crazy stuff he said on the campaign trail could actually become a reality now, and that’s terrifying.
“Get out there and volunteer, because volunteering is a way to say we’re making these groups stronger,” she continued with such passion in her voice. “This is one way our voice will be heard. It’s not all going to be heard in Washington. This is how we’re going to be heard!” Okay, that’s a really scary reminder coming from a sitting U.S. senator that so many of these groups and organizations that were able to grow and thrive during President Obama’s eight years in office are now so threatened.
HollywoodLifers, are you going to take Elizabeth’s advice and go out and volunteer to make your voice heard?
