Uh oh. Voters are burning perfectly good pairs of New Balance sneakers after the shoe company’s VP made comments supporting President-Elect, Donald Trump! See what he said to get people SO riled up!
Sneaker brand New Balance is at the center of controversy at the moment, after the company’s Vice President Matt LeBretton indicated in a statement to a Wall Street Journal reporter that the company was in favor of a Donald Trump, 70, presidency on Nov. 9. As you’d probably imagine, New Balance’s large market of millennial consumers immediately took to Twitter to bash the company for its political stance by burning their shoes and throwing them in the trash.
Dozens of images and videos are going viral on social media, showing voters setting flame to their new shoes! “Heard you guys endorsed Donald Trump. So consider this the last pair i ever cop,” one fan said, flipping the bird before throwing his shoes out. “I am never buying your shoes again! Was a lifelong buyer but after backing Trump forget it,” another person chimed in. Yikes, these customers really aren’t happy!

What initially got Donald nay-sayers fired up was Matt’s comments to Wall Street Journal reporter Sara Germano, where he revealed the company feels like President Obama, 55, left them hanging. “The Obama admin turned a deaf ear to us & frankly w/ Pres-Elect Trump we feel things are going to move in the right direction,” Matt told Sara.
New Balance reps released a statement to Sole Collector to clear up Matt’s previous position, saying that NB believes in “community” and “humanity.” While the company didn’t address the controversy directly, it seems like they might not agree with Donald’s racist and bigoted rhetoric or policy plans. But, NB may be leaning toward the president-elect with regards to trade. Donald reportedly opposes the Trans Pacific Partnership — the organization that establishes the rules for global trade, which New Balance has also opposed over the years.
Voters didn’t only resort to burning their sneakers in protest of Donald’s shocking victory though. Only one day after Election Night, many angry voters took to the streets of New York, California, and Chicago to stand against to the newly-elected candidate.
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of people burning their sneakers in protest of New Balance?
