Russell Brand became a new dad earlier this month, and while he & his fiancée Laura Gallacher have kept their baby’s birth details under wraps, the sex of their new bundle of joy has been revealed as well as the precious child’s name! BUT despite it all, Russell has said that the kid will be raised gender neutral.
It’s a girl for Russell Brand, 41, and his 27-year-old fiancée Laura Gallacher! The exciting news was confirmed by Laura’s sister Kirsty Gallacher via Twitter when she wrote, “Proud to be an auntie for the first time,” but then added that she couldn’t wait to meet HER — total giveaway! And apparently Laura and Russell named their little girl Mabel.
But despite choosing such a precious name for his daughter, Russell has said, according to Daily Mail, that he would like to raise his child “gender neutral.” “We don’t know the gender,” Russell told Jonathan Ross before the birth. “I may not even ever impose a gender upon it, let the child grow up and be whatever the hell it is.”
At the time, Russell also revealed he had already painted the baby’s room — but didn’t confirm the color. Instead, he joked about calling the child “Jesus Three” because he’s “accepted the idea that that person will be more important than me.” And to prepare for his newfound fatherhood, the comedian told the talkshow host that he brushing up on some light reading!
Thanks for messages, proud to be an auntie for first time… well done to @DaisyPoppets & @rustyrockets. Sadly can’t meet her ’til am well 😔
“I read a different book every week to mentally prepare me for it,” Russell dished. “I don’t know that it has prepared me for it.” The actor ended up letting the big news of little Mabel’s birth slip while he was onstage performing at a standup show.
Nottingham Playhouse audience member Daniel Crann told The Mirrorthat Russell “was conscious of the clock and made sure he was off stage by just approaching 9 p.m. as he ‘needed to get down the f–king M21 as my girlfriend has just had a baby.'” Aw!
