Planned Parenthood has spoken, and they are NOT going to let Donald Trump and his presidency intimidate them. In fact, the organization issued a very powerful statement on Nov. 9, the day after the shocking presidential election, making it clear that they refuse to shut down — no matter what! Read their strong, comforting words here.
It’s no secret that during his campaign, president-elect Donald Trump, 70, was outspoken about his desires to defund Planned Parenthood and accessible healthcare. And now that Donald is moving into the White House, women all over the country are terrified for their rights. But to try and eradicate some of those fears, Planned Parenthood President, Cecile Richards, issued an inspiring statement on Nov. 9. One that insisted Planned Parenthood will NOT be shut down.
“Planned Parenthood has been here for 100 years, and one thing is clear: We will never back down and we will never stop fighting to ensure that Planned Parenthood patients have access to the care they need, people who come from communities that need our continued support in this new reality – immigrants, people of color, the LGBTQ community, people of faith, and more,” the statement read.
“Health care should not be political. Every morning, Planned Parenthood health center staff across the country wake up and open their doors, as they have this morning, to care for anyone who needs them, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, income, or country of origin. They will do so today, they will do so tomorrow, they will do so every day as they have for 100 years.”
Pretty powerful stuff, right? And to drive their point home even further, PP is using the hashtag #WeWontGoBack on Twitter. “We are resilient. We’ve survived years of relentless attacks. We will continue to fight for our health & rights,” a tweet from the PP official account said. Even their website is getting the message across as the first thing you see on their site are the phrases, “These doors stay open” and “We’re here.”
