He did it. He actually did it. Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the Nov. 8 election. Despite all his deplorable comments and numerous allegations of sexual assault, the former ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ star will be the 45th President of the United States of America.
Donald Trump, 70, beat the odds. At the start of the election night, FiveThirtyEight gave the former reality television star a 28.6% chance of defeating Hillary Clinton, 69, but The Donald somehow pulled off the upset.
Donald’s chances skyrocketed after he won the battleground states of Florida, North Carolina and Ohio. Despite Hillary’s attempts to recover, it just wasn’t enough. Trump kept on winning while Hillary kept on underperforming and ultimately, the election was called in his favor, according to the Washington Post. Donald Trump is now president-elect.
It all seemed like it was part of one huge joke. The first time Donald descended down the escalators at Trump Plaza to Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World,” few took him seriously. A year before America would hand him the keys to the White House, Donald made outrageous claims of building a “great wall on our southern border and [making] Mexico pay for that wall.” It was also the speech that saw him claim Mexico was sending over “rapists” and “drug dealers,” causing a huge backlash from the Latino community.
That was just the tip of the iceberg. Donald would wage a campaign that saw him call for total ban on Muslims from entering the country, slam NATO as “obsolete” (per Business Insider) and insult everyone from women to minorities to the families of slain war heroes. He even once said he would support “punishing” women who get abortions. Yet, Donald’s popularity soared. He defeated the 16 other Republicans running in the GOP primary, and ultimately, his Democratic rival.
It seems that the growing number of sexual assault allegations couldn’t sway the public from picking Trump, as he convinced them all to join him and “Make America Great Again.” Will that happen? Trump’s presidency has been ranked among the Top 10 global risks by The Economist, according to Politico. Not only have some experts said his anti-Muslim comments will help ISIS recruit future terrorists, his financial plans will likely start a trade war that could very well throw the world into a global financial meltdown. Need proof? During the 2016 election night, Dow futures plunged at least 750 points with Trump’s success, per Market Watch. Needless to say, this is just the beginning.
What do you think about America picking Donald Trump as its president, HollywoodLifers? Are you happy with the results?
