California did NOT vote for a Donald Trump presidency…and now, plenty of residents in the western state want OUT of the U.S. They even started a #Calexit trending topic on Twitter, begging Cali to secede from America now that Trump’s been elected!
Just like Britain left the European Union earlier this year, California wants an exit of its own — from the United States of America! California was one of the states that didn’t give its electoral votes to Donald Trump, 70, in the 2016 presidential election, but when he was named the president-elect anyway, residents began tweeting up a storm about their disdain for the results.
Quickly, Twitter users began suggesting a Brexit-like plan for California, which would involved the state seceding from America and becoming an independent nation. #Calexit began trending on the social media site, with tweeters pointing out reasons why it could be a success. See some messages here:
California should secede. We are the richest state in the U.S. Therefore it is strong enough to be its own country.#Calexit

Not gonna lie, would be totally down with #Calexit. I typically think secession is silly, but add WA and OR and… well. Just saying.

#calexit ive been saying this for months! We got Google and Hollywood, we can survive solo!

Why must we as Californians be forced to stoop down to the same level of idiocy and ignorance shown in the South and Midwest #calexit

I'm not joking when I say the #CalExit sounds lucrative. We could do it.

Of course, others pointed out that #Calexit would not be the move, but it turns out, this is a legitimate movement that’s been sweeping Cali for awhile now. The Sacramento group, Yes California, has been leading the charge, and before the election stated that “California deserves its independence” regardless of who would be named president.
“If Trump wins I am announcing and funding a legitimate campaign for California to become its own nation,” venture capitalist Shervin Pishevar tweeted on Nov. 8. Donald’s victory in a state full of Hillary Clinton, 69, supporters has intensified the #Calexit movement more than ever, and although there’s no official plans in place for something like this to happen, it’s definitely something we might want to look out for!
HollywoodLifers, do you think California should secede from the United States? Do you think it will ever actually happen…or is this just a bunch of social media talk!?
