The internet straight up lost its minds on Nov. 6, when a new TV spot for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story dropped on YouTube. For anyone who is not full on obsessed with the saga, here’s the released synopsis for the film. “An all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.” Heck, yeah! Let’s get to it.
The footage opens with an ominous shot of the Death Star. “The Empire’s building a terrible weapon,” we hear Felicity Jones‘ character, Jyn Erso, says in a voiceover, clearly addressing a group of people she needs to convince to fight the Empire. Then we see Jyn shrouded in tattered rags hiding in the streets of a village, as Stormtroopers walking by and are shot by who we can only assume are some awesome members of the Rebellion.
Next, X-Wing fighters fly through the sky in several scenes where they shoot at the Empire’s spacecrafts and troops on the ground duke it out. “I need your help. We can stop them. This is your chance to make a real difference. We shall have hope. Rebellions are built on hope. Are you with me?” Jyn says to a room full of onlookers. “All the way,” a member of the crowd says. BOOM!
This TV spot is the latest installment in a series of teasers that have driven us mad with excitement to see Rogue One. As if we weren’t already psyched enough to see Felicity, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker take over the Star Wars saga with this brand new standalone flick. So, who’s ready for it to be Christmas? Cause we want to see Rogue One more than we want an Ewok!
