Throwback! Green Day totally rocked out the MTV EMAs with ‘Bang Bang’ before being honored with the Global Icon award. So cool!
Green Day is always ready to bring rock ‘n roll to any awards show, so the 2016 MTV EMAs were no exception. Billie Joe Armstrong, 44, led the band to utter greatness on the Rotterdam stage on Sunday night, November 6, and the crowd could not get enough.
The band performed their latest hit song, “Bang Bang,” as the audience rocked out below the stage. They blended in really well with the mixed genre show, which also featured performances by DNCE, Martin Garrix, and even The Weeknd. So cool, right? We love seeing all of these different genres come together!
The EMAs are a super big night for Green Day, because not only are they performing but they are being honored with one very special award: the Global Icon award! This isn’t surprising for the band, because not only did they form way back in 1986, but they’ve been making and releasing hits since the mid-90’s. The band’s massive success came after their whirlwind hit album, Dookie, which was released in 1994. Since then, Green Day has been a staple in the pop/punk music scene and continues to release incredible music!
