SO funny! A man hacked his Amazon Echo to make it talk out of one of those Billy Bass wall-mounts, and it’s totally cracking us up. Watch the hilarious video here!
For some reason, this is making us laugh SO hard! You know those old Big Mouth Billy Bass wall decorations that used to sing songs when you walked past them? Well, one developer, by the name of Brian Kane thought it would be a funny prank to hack an Amazon Echo — an audio home speake — and shove it inside of one! The joke was that whenever some one pushed the button to activate the singing Bass, the Amazon Echo, also known as Alexa, would speak in its place. So instead of getting his Billy Bass to sing songs like “Take Me to the River” and Bob Marley’s single, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” Brian got his device to provide more useful information pertaining to everyday life!
In a clip Brian shared on Facebook on Oct. 27, the developer can be heard asking his newly hacked device what the weather is. And the fish creepily wiggles toward the voice like it would normally, but instead Alexa responds with the local weather for Cambridge! Call us childish, but you have to admit, this is pretty funny and a tad creepy! Who’d ever think you would be getting your daily news from a talking fish mounted on the wall?!
It’s still unclear how Brian managed to get Alexa inside of the Billy Bass, but it’s possible he used Amazon’s API feature, which allows developers to connect voice-enabled products like Alexa to third-party hardware and products, according to Mashable.
Brian also captioned his video, writing, “the future.” Maybe as his next hack, he’ll get the Billy Bass to help out with recipes for a favorite dish! We’re not sure if we want talking wall mounts in every house and building, but it might be the great start to something else!
