Hollywood royalty collided with British royalty when Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner’s 4-year-old son Samuel had an epic — and surprise — playdate with Prince George & Princess Charlotte! In a recent interview Ben revealed how it all went down, and that it ended with his son having a case of the sniffles! Get all the adorable details here.
Ben Affleck, 44, and Jennifer Garner’s, 44, son Samuel, 4, got the ultimate celebrity treatment while his famous dad was filming Justice League in London earlier this year — and it was all completely unplanned! On a rainy day, Ben decided to take his little boy to an indoor play center in the English city, and, as he came to find out, the royals were there too!
I noticed this weird vibe from the other grownups,” the star revealed to Graham Norton on BBC1 in an episode airing on Nov. 4. “They were all very well dressed and they had earpieces and I thought, ‘For a kids’ place this is tight security!’ I was the very last person to realize that Prince George [age 3] and Princess Charlotte [age 1] were in there playing with my kid.” Casual, right?
And while it’s super exciting that little Sam got to play with actual royalty, unfortunately, a case of the sniffles broke out as a result. “I can now tell [Sam] that he got a cold from the King of England!” Ben, who appeared on the talk show to promote his new film The Accountant, said. We would endure a cold any day if that meant we could spend some quality time with George and Charlotte!
Of his family time in London, Ben explained that he wanted Samuel and daughters Violet, 10, and Seraphina, 7, to “see all the sights” — but despite heading to Windsor Castle, the Tower of London, and even Buckingham Palace, they “didn’t see one royal” in what might be thought to be the usual places — that is until Sam’s memorable playdate!
But although they checked out a bunch of cool sites abroad, not every trip went according to plan apparently. “We did all the sights and I wanted them to be cultured,” Ben told the British crowd. He even took his kids to see the famed changing of the guard in London. “Now if it was in America – and I hate to admit this – you’d get a VIP pass, you’d get backstage and they would accommodate you.”
Ben continued, “So I got a tour guide thinking this guy will accommodate me but that wasn’t the case! He took us to the middle of the street but we were so far away not only couldn’t we see the guard, we couldn’t see the fence! We were surrounded by 50,000 tourists looking for selfie opportunities and we never saw the guards change. It was a disaster!” Looks like the only ones who get special treatment in England are the British royals themselves!
