Nothing says Nashville like… Beyonce? Apparently! Queen Bey took the stage at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on Nov. 2 at the 50th annual Country Music Associations Awards! And yes, she was joined by three other power women — the Dixie Chicks.
Well, the rumors were true: Beyonce Knowles took the stage on Nov. 2 with a killer rendition of her hit song, “Daddy Lessons,” and was joined by one of the most popular country girl groups of all time, The Dixie Chicks. The ladies mixed in a little tiny bit of their hit, “Long Time Gone,” too! Overall, they meshed amazingly — Bey looked stunning in a sheer, long sleeve plunging dress, while the Dixie Chicks went for all black. They also had a ton of background dancers and a band who nailed the song. You can watch the full performance here.
Of course, if you’ve done your Dixie Chicks research, you know they are actually very big fans of Queen Bey and this song. During a show in Manchester in April, they covered the song, which is one of the more country songs we’ve heard fromBey. And they’re not the only ones who are fans of the song.
Critics actually started bashing the hit, which was featured on Lemonade, as Bey’s attempt to go country. CMT.com even wrote a piece, titled “What’s So Country About Beyonce?,” but Blake Shelton stuck up for her.
“I can’t believe people that don’t contribute to music that criticize music, it just blows my mind and Beyonce — tell them to kiss that a–, is what I would do,” he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “Frequently, country crosses over. But every now & then a major pop superstar wants to be a part of this too. Welcome, Beyoncé,” host Brad Paisley wrote on Twitter right before the show.
The lyrics include a few “Yee-haws” and it name drops “Texas” multiple times, but regardless, it’s always fun to see a huge star join other huge stars (especially powerful women) on stage. Since it is the 50th anniversary of the iconic show, there’s definitely no limits to how crazy it can get!
