Mike Pence is glad he’s safe on the ground after his horrifying accident on Oct. 27! The GOP’s vice presidential candidate’s plane skidded off the runway at LaGuardia in NYC, and Mike recalled the exact moment he knew he was in trouble. Click to watch.
“Well, it was a low ceiling,” Mike, 57, told George Stephanopoulos, 55, on the Oct. 28 edition of Good Morning America. “We came in and, it was a landing a LaGuardia and we just immediately felt heavy breaking on the runway. The plane fishtailed a little bit – just for a few seconds, you could feel us bouncing off. With mud splattered on the windows, we figured we were off the runway, but thank god, everyone was fine.”

Thankfully, none of the 48 people on board the plane were injured in the rough landing. Mike was travelling on a Boeing 737-700, chartered from Eastern Airlines, along with his staff, members of the Secret Service and the press pool, per CNN. The plane touched down on the New York City airport before sliding off the runway, coming to a very sharp stop on the grass.
Both George and Mike marveled at the collapsible runway, with George pointing out the safety measure made sure that everyone walked away alive. “That’s what they tell me,” Mike said. “We saw all the broken concrete, George.”
“I’m just really grateful, really grateful for some quick action,” Mike said. “Not only by the pilots, but also by [the] first responders who were literally – it seemed like they were on the scene at LaGuardia before the plane even came to a halt.” Mike also recalled a saying that his Marine Corps aviator son, Michael, has: “‘Every landing you walk away from is a good one.'”
Both Donald Trump, 70, and Hillary Clinton, 69, were glad to hear that Mike was okay. Mike’s Democratic rival tweeted she was “glad to hear” he was safe, while Donald, at a rally in Ohio, gushed all over his running mate.
“I just spoke to our future vice president, and he’s okay,” Donald said. “Do you know he was in a big accident with the plane? Everybody’s fine. But what a great decision it was to get Mike Pence. What a great guy he is. What a great job he’s doing.”
What do you think about Mike’s retelling of the accident, HollywoodLifers? Are you going to think twice about travelling via plane after this?
