Raven Symone is out at ‘The View’ for the future I can see! That’s right, Disney Channel’s ‘That’s So Raven’ is back! The actress will star and serve as an executive producer on the spin-off series.
Raven-Symoné announced on October 27 that she will be leaving the ABC talk show by the end of 2016 to return to Disney Channel. She will relocate to Los Angeles and reprise her role as Raven Baxter, the psychic who was a teenager on the show that ran from 2003 to 2007. The spinoff will have Raven playing a divorced mother of two pre-teen kids, one who may or may not be a psychic as well.
Raven joined The View last year, and with the show having eight co-hosts that come in and out, the show is not currently looking for a replacement. The show also includes Joy Behar, Candace Cameron Bure, Paula Faris, Sara Haines, Bila, Hostin and moderator Whoopi Goldberg.
“Raven’s brilliant style of fearless comedy was a driving force for Disney Channel’s success around the world. Her performance in ‘That’s So Raven’ is timeless. We now have our eyes on the future with her, and we’re looking forward to telling more stories for a new generation with an adult Raven Baxter raising her young family,” Adam Bonnett, exec VP of original programming for Disney Channels Worldwide, said in a statement.
Of course this follows the path that the Disney Channel took with its extremely successful series, Boy Meets World, kicking off a Girl Meets World which is now a huge success.
That’s So Raven changed TV at the time, with Raven becoming the first African-American woman to have her name in a comedy series title. At 19, the actress was also named producer on the series. She won four NAACP Image Awards and two Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, among others.
