The designers are in for a slew of surprises as the episode starts off with them jetting to Universal Studios before designing high-fashion streetwear looks for the urban jungle.
Heidi Klum tells the designers they need to be turned upside down — and she means quite literally! The group heads to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, where they enjoy some fun in the sun and welcome the break from the workroom. In true Project Runway fashion, the day leads to a challenge — but not after they get to go on rides and relax and sketch by a serene pool. They arrive back in NYC rejuvenated and ready to create cool, fashion-forward streetwear looks for the urban jungle inspired by Skull Island: Reign Of Kong.
Tim Gunn is worried Erin won’t have time to complete her work, but she’s determined to go back to embroidering. Although at first he cautions Dexter to avoid creating something too costume-like, he encourages him to stay true to himself once he says he wants to show the judges who he really is.

When Brik picked out his fabrics I was seriously nervous for him, but at the end of the day, I do appreciate how well tailored the pieces are — especially compared to what he initially sent down the runway in the earlier challenges. Does he actually have taste that will appeal to the judges? That remains to be seen.
Tim questions Nathalia’s design and once again it is clear that her work just isn’t on the same level as some of the other designers, however, she takes his advice and crops down the coat.
Side note: Heidi looks seriously sexy for the runway show. She shares another “surprise” with the judges: there won’t be any more immunity granted to the winning designer. Ouch. This week there are two guest judges: fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff and Mr. Robot actress Carly Chaikin.
To be totally honest, this is the second week in a row that I was a bit underwhelmed by the runway show — we usually see more talent and more innovation from the contestants.
Erin seems to be psyching herself out and the judges are not impressed. She needs to really get focused and back in the game. I’m happy they encourage Dexter to really go for it — I think it was just what he needed to hear!
While they appreciate Brik’s tailoring, his mixing patterns left the judges confused. Cornelius’ poor construction was also called out. Although Brik doesn’t really seem to have taste it looks like Cornelius didn’t even know how to sew. In the end, Brik is sent packing. Although in the beginning of the competition I wasn’t a big fan, he really grew on me. I appreciate his individuality, his personality and his quirkiness — even if he can’t seem to mix prints properly. Cornelius is leaving me underwhelmed.
Laurence is praised for her entire outfit — and it was amazing. She was in a class all alone. While they also liked Nathalia’s look and she finally made it to the top of the challenge, I do think Laurence deserved the win.
