Michael Cudlitz wasn’t allowed to tell ANYONE about Abraham’s fate on ‘The Walking Dead.’ The actor revealed in an all-new interview that he was forced to keep the big secret from his own kids up until a certain point! However, he did let his wife in on the huge season 7 spoiler.
Michael, 51, didn’t tell his kids for a long time, and he had a good reason for it. They were going to be off at college, and he didn’t want Abraham’s death being the subject of every college campus conversation. “I didn’t want them to have to process it when they weren’t home and then maybe slip up and tell their friends at school,” he told E! News. “I wanted them to be at home and be able to look them in the eye and explain what was going to happen and how important it was to keep the secret—like really important…”
So, yes, he eventually told his kids months before the season 7 premiere that his character was getting killed off, but his wife knew way before then. Michael noted that keeping it a secret from her didn’t make any sense. “There’s no way. Like, ‘Honey, why are you home?’ ‘Can’t tell you.’ There’s no logic to that. People in the immediate circle knew,” he said.
Michael admitted on Talking Dead that he knew Abraham was on “borrowed time” because of the graphic novel. In the comics, Abraham is shot dead in the eye by Dwight. Well, on the show, he was killed by Negan and Michael was pleased with how Abraham went out.
“He made it very clear to Negan that if he were going to take somebody, take me. If it’s gonna help protect the rest of the group,” Michael said on Talking Dead. We’ll miss you, Michael. The Walking Dead won’t be the same without you.
